Winter is here … Here are some tips to stay healthy!

December 26, 2019 by

Winters are excellent, but also cruel. It is a season with shorter days, longer nights and colder weather.

During this season, our body naturally relaxes due to the cold. Our muscles become stiff and laziness will prevail. This will impede your training regimen if you are not determined.

Winter also means holidays! December is coming, we are full of sweets, as the month celebrates Christmas and New Year. Similarly, family holidays and vacations are also the norm!

When we are faced with such circumstances, staying healthy in the winter can be very difficult. Enormous motivation and determination are needed to keep up with their health regimes.

In addition to laziness caused by the cold, and holiday treats, there is something else called the “winter blues”. During this season, people often suffer from a cold or the flu, as the body's immunity decreases. When this happens, paying attention to health and fitness is even difficult.

But even winter can be called into question with pre-training and better management.

Our health coach Darshita Takkar shares his thoughts on how to stay healthy in the winter season.

1. Eat smartly

When it's cold outside, you can eat hot pizza and sip hot chocolate. This is completely natural, and it is definitely not your fault.

Winters are known to stimulate cravings for carbohydrates. Instead of succumbing to temptation and longing, you should take steps to control your cravings for carbohydrates.

Load your plate with protein, fiber, vegetables and fruits. Instead of eating simple carbohydrates, eat complex carbohydrates such as millet, ragi and jovar. You can eat cakes from time to time, but always control the portion.

Also, never skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it helps you plan the rest of the day.

Omega 3 rich foodAnother thing you should keep in mind is the inclusion of healthy fats, i.e. omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s can be found in foods like nuts, seeds, fish, etc.It is worth noting that in nature, essential fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties.

Anti-inflammatory properties are great for reducing muscle aches, stiffness and joint pain, which are quite common due to cold weather.

2. Turn on spices

We already mentioned that our immune system gets hit during the winter season. This can only be solved with nutritious food.

Feel free to add spices to your recipes as often as possible. Spices like ginger, garlic, cilantro, turmeric not only improve the taste of your food, but also strengthen your immune system.

Colds and sore throats are very common during the winter season. To facilitate this, you can simply add half a teaspoon of turmeric and pepper for hot milk and drink it before bedtimeTurmeric has both medicinal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Like the one mentioned above, you can prepare several drinks using natural herbs and spices that will strengthen your immune system during the winter season. These homemade drinks will also help you stay healthy in the winter season.

3. Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. And you always need to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Seasonal fruits and vegetables are provided with natural protective nutrients that are great for winter. for instance, oranges, mandarin, etc. with a high content of vitamin C.

Vitamin C is very necessary to strengthen immunity. Now these citrus fruits grow in winter. Thus, it is not only easily accessible, but also costs much less.

4. Drink wisely

To stay healthy in the winter, you can also sip herbal teas such as cinnamon tea and basil tea. You can also choose Truweight herbal drinks such as Teatox, chamomile tea, etc.

These drinks are rich in antioxidants and help relieve winter-related disorders such as depression and anxiety.

In the same way, instead of hot chocolate, you can drink hot vegetable soups. They are great for your throat, mood and health.

5. Implementation

Exercising in the fresh air can be very difficult due to cold weather, and we should avoid the common cold. But this does not mean that you generally skip exercises during the winter season.

You can always do internal exercises. There are many videos on YouTube on cardio, strengthening and yoga exercises. You can also find warm-ups and stretching exercises.

If you don’t know where to start, check out our various exercise blog and Truweight YouTube channel for indoor training.

6. Keep yourself hydrated

In the summer we will be constantly thirsty due to the scorching heat, and therefore we will drink plenty of water. But this does not apply to winter. We almost do not feel thirst in winter and therefore we “forget” to drink water.

drinking waterTo stay healthy in the winter, it is important to consciously drink water. Water will help remove toxins from the body. It will also help alleviate skin problems such as peeling, dandruff or eczema that are common in winter.

7. Communication

It is something focused more on the mind than on the body. The December season is full of holidays, so you need to enjoy it fully.

Too many restrictions can interfere with your cheerful mood. Therefore, it is important to find a balance.

For your health regimen to be successful in the winter, plan a healthy diet with your family. The most important thing is to influence your social circle and motivate them to stay healthy in the winter season.
