For many years we have been told that weight loss + weight loss can be harmful to our health and metabolism.
In 2016, a New York Times article on weight loss among the Biggest Losers contest became viral.
Many have lost hope.
However, little is known about the regulation of hormones and the composition of body fat after multiple weight cycling episodes.
The University of Washington team today released the first of its kind study, published before being published in American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism this highlights the potential benefits of several weight loss attempts.
Repeated loss and restoration of weight can lead to an improvement in insulin levels and a decrease in the percentage of body fat in the long run, even during phases of weight recovery.
This was not a study funded by Slim Fast or Weight Watchers. American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism peer-reviewed + authoritative scientific journal. Leading Researcher is a physician and researcher at the University of Washington.
Although the study was conducted on rats rather than humans, there are many reasons for optimism.
After the first cycle, compared to the control, the weight cycles ate less during periods of weight recovery and had a lower body fat mass and insulin levels. In addition, there was no difference in the levels of leptin and ghrelin, the hormones that control hunger, appetite, and weight control, between the two groups, which suggests the stability of hormone levels even during periods of weight cycling, the research team explained. "The improvement in fat mass, as well as the improvement in glucose tolerance observed in our rats undergoing cyclic weight changes, implies metabolic benefits during periods of calorie restriction, despite the stress of weight gain," the researchers write.
We will be honest. Very few of us
lose weight + keep it on the first try. I'm sure not. But in the end
– I did. And this new study should restore hope for those who bought in
the idea that it is almost impossible to lose weight forever.
Believing that you can is half the battle.
