Home schooling with stripes and sliders
In connection with the recent outbreak of COVID-19 over the past few days, I have shared some videos with home exercises on social networks. How long readers will read, I have been a supporter of home / low-tech training for the past 20 years. With that in mind, I am pleased to share with you what worked well for me. Two examples include resistance bands and furniture sliders. Both are relatively inexpensive and very useful for home schooling and / or travel.
Resistance training
First, you will find a video demonstration of resistance group exercises. Throughout the video, I use 41-inch strips from Iron Woody Fitness. For many years I had the same many groups, and I had no problems. There are other reputable suppliers, so be sure to make purchases. For example, a quick Amazon search will provide additional options (e.g. Serious Steel) I would not expect to find too much difference between more popular brands.
As for the pen used in the video, this is a homemade tool that I first discussed in 2011 (see here). I also use a 2-inch PVC pipe for sitting rows and tricep slopes.
Training Slider Furniture
Furniture sliders are another inexpensive option for home schooling. I have been using the same pair for over 10 years. The sliders are designed for use on the carpet and are 9-1 / 2 by 5-3 / 4 inches. They can be bought at most hardware stores or through Amazon (see here).
To increase the speed of the sliders, add a few drops of water-repellent glass, such as Rain-X. Work with a thin carpet is also preferable. Thicker carpets will reduce the speed of the sliders. Personally, I keep a thin strip of carpet in the garage exclusively for sliders. I keep it folded up when not in use, and lay it down when I do the slider exercise.
Last thoughts
Thus, this is just a short entry to answer some of the questions that I saw on social networks over the past few days. If you have any further questions about groups, sliders, or other home exercises or exercises, feel free to email me or leave a comment below. I am happy to help, especially in these uncertain times.
Stay strong and be safe.
