I review many books and listen to them recently when I run and eat. And if you didn’t like the Game of Thrones – I want to share a warning about one book that I am NOT going to finish.
Science fiction novels Round up
- Life of Pi
Jan Martel
Review: good. I did not think that I would like it. My friend suggested this as part of our imaginary book club. I thought that this was going to teach me the meaning of life, and this is not … therefore I think that the search continues. Great Reader.
- Oryx and Crack
Margaret Atwood
Review: good. Various. Interesting. I didn’t realize that this was part of the trilogy, but they are not related to each other, so you do not need to listen to them all. Great Reader.
- Deep, deep snow
Brian Freeman
Review: good. I think that the dialogue between people did not sound natural. But apart from this – I did not predict the ending. I like that it was not one person, but their only problem. The narrator dealt with work and family at the same time. And the plot was multi-layered, so when one main problem was solved, there were still other things to solve.
- Quiet patient
Alex Michaelidis
Review: good! I think it was recommended by someone on the podcast Love the Young Home? It was interesting – I wanted to finish. There is a good twist that I liked.
- Woman in the cabin 10
Ruth Ware
Review: good. Suspenseful or stressful. It was a little unpleasant that she seemed helpless in many books. But it was a quick, easy listening.
- Something in the Water: A Novel
Katherine Steadman
Review: Good-Good. I like what they write, read, and she gave a great performance.
But as the story unfolds … I felt like I was wondering what happened. Basically – I really did not believe it? The characters did things, and there was no explanation of why, when, and how they changed. I understand that events change people, and we are complex, but there was no development of character to explain how this person changed. And towards the end, the main character seems to just think that she is a victim of circumstances. It's over, and I feel like she’s just not attached. Hard to explain without spoilers. I wanted to talk to someone about this because I was very skeptical and wanted to know if others believed.
7. NOT COMPLETED – Beautiful girls from Karin Sloter
* Next time I will review non-fiction books that I recently listened to! *
